a 4 year old's perspective on equality

(a highly recommended read, thanks grandma!)
eden learned about martin luther king, jr., at school last friday.
here's her version in a conversation with dan.

dan: how was school today, e?
eden: we learned about that man.
dan: what man?
eden: the man who taught people not to hit people
dan (using his sharp lawyer skills to figure it out): you mean martin luther king, jr?
eden: yes. he taught about not hitting people. maybe carter could learn something from him
dan: do you mean, he taught people not to hate each other?
eden: yes, that's right. he said we need to love each other, not hate. and it doesn't matter what color we are, we need to love all the same.
dan: that is so true.
eden: it's like in my book from grandma, the colors of us! people are all different colors in that book. there is even a girl who is the color of cinnamon. i'm white. well, with some red too.
